With an abundance of bright colors and eye-catching designs, area rugs are one of those home decor items that you can just fall in love with. However, while many people purchase area rugs purely for ornamental reasons, the truth is that they are so much more than that. An area rug is not simply something that can make a particular area of your home look good, it is also something that is useful in a very practical sense. It is in fact one of those few home decor items that is both beautiful as well as useful. This article aims to explore the various practical uses there are for area rugs in a home.

Of course, the most basic and obvious use of an area rug is to add color and feel to a home. With area rugs, home owners can further customize their homes, putting their own touch to the various rooms in their home. Someone who likes horses, for example, may choose to place an area rug that has been embroidered with horses in their room. This adds a very personal touch to the room.

Area rugs as floor coverings literally cover the flooring from “alien specimen” - dirt, soil, stain, spills, scratches, wet tracks and whatever is not supposed to be in contact with the floor. Marble flooring is expensive, so getting it dirty is cringing. Hardwood is prone to scratches and dullness if not maintained, therefore protecting it from the causes is crucial. Tiles may look simple but they are susceptible to cracks. This flooring needs to be shielded too. An area rug on all kinds of flooring, including an already carpeted floor is a big help. Carpeting is protection, but area rug is protection for the carpet. How cool is that?

Another great use for area rugs is in areas where there might be spills. In the dining area, for example, it is not uncommon to have a house guest accidentally spill food or a beverage. Often, this can leave a permanent stain on the flooring. By placing an area rug in the room, however, you minimize the danger of permanent stains on your floor. Instead, you can simply remove the area rug and have it thoroughly cleaned to remove the stain. If it will not come off, then at least you can still replace the area rug without much hassle. The same certainly cannot be said of replacing flooring.

Some people have floors that are very slippery, and this can be very dangerous if you have any children or elderly in your home. Children are generally not too steady on their feet, and they may easily slip and fall, hurting themselves. Older people are also prone to falls. If they injure themselves, they may be a long time healing, as injuries take much longer to heal when you are older than when you are young.

If you still don’t agree that area rugs are extremely likeable home decors, I suggest you buy one and see how it can transform your home. Furthermore, how a rug placed in the needed area of your house can do its job wellwithout complaints, even if it serves as a dirt deterrent on the front porch.
