by Debra That Painter Lady Conrad

A boy’s bedroom can be made into another world with painted murals and a bit of imagination. Murals and faux painting techniques can turn a room from just a place to sleep to one where a boy can have fun and express his personality.

You can go all the way with murals, creating a whole alternative environment, or you can use themed accents and colorful features to give a room a new character. Your choice may depend on your available time and budget. You can also use novelty paints to add interesting and fun touches that will appeal to any child.

The Complete Boy’s Room Makeover

If you’re going to go the whole hog, you can use murals and paint to recreate a whole other world. It’s a good idea to consult on your theme, because children are known for changing their interests and passions and redoing a room when the novelty fades is probably not what you want to do! Some popular themes for boy’s rooms include:

* The outdoors. That could be a room painted with Wild West landscapes and motifs or so that it resembles being in a tree house in the forest. For animal lovers, consider a jungle look replete with exotic creatures.

* Rooms from the future. Small boys will love going to sleep in a spaceship, perhaps with faux windows that look onto a sky filled with stars and planets.

* Outdoor environments. With clever use of murals and faux painting techniques, you can turn a boy’s room into a tree house or a room from the Wild West. Jungle murals with bright birds and fabulous animals are fun for young animal lovers.

* Futuristic rooms. For the young sci-fi fan, a spaceship with a window giving views of the cosmos and planets could be a dream room.

Any surface in a room can be the raw material for a paint treatment. Don’t forget to consider what you can do with floors, ceilings and doors.

Themed Rooms

Whatever a boy is interested in will provide inspiration for a theme. You can find ideas everywhere. A favorite film could inspire a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ look or a room populated by much-loved cartoon characters. From baseball to pinball, sports and hobbies can be a springboard for ideas. A sport’s team’s colors and mascots can provide you with a basic color scheme.

Fun Paints

For most mural paintings acrylic and latex paints are effective and easy to use. Novelty paints, of which there is a variety on the market, can add a fun finishing touch to a boy’s room. To cater to a boy’s creativity, a wall of green chalkboard paint will allow your son to express himself on the walls without getting into trouble!

You can provide a boy with endless hours of wonder with fluorescent paints that glow in the dark after lights out. As well as being ideal for creating starry skies on ceilings, fluorescent paints can be fun on walls and in murals. Invisible by day, they are available in a range of different colors. Importantly, today’s products are also non-toxic.

Painting murals in boy’s rooms is a great way to jazz up a plain room and transform it into a place that a boy can call his very own.
